For many new users of FIBC Bulk Bags(also called ton bag, tote, or sack), the top spout styles can be very itimidating for their more than 20+ design parameters. Today we'll learn the most commonly seen 3 types of them.

Most Common Seen Top Styles of a FIBC Bulk Bag

1. Top Spout Style

A Top Spout is usually made of coated woven PP fabric, it resembles as narrow tube with a flat base and sewn with the bag body. In the filling process, the Spout connects to a filling equipment and serves as the primary point of entry for loading materials into the bag.  In this way the Spout perfectly controls filling and leakage. Therefore, it is a priority choice for storing and transporting dusty goods or powder goods.

A Top Spout is always has a pre-mounted tie for easy and quick tie off after the filling work completed.

Spout Top Style offers numerous benefits, including ease of loading and unloading, reduced spillage and waste, enhanced safety, versatility and adaptability, improved efficiency and productivity. These advantages make Spout Top Stytle a popular choice for various bulk material handling applications.

Main Applications:

Chemical Industry:

The spout top style is commonly used in the chemical industry for handling and transporting various fine chemicals.

It provides a secure and controlled way to fill and discharge these materials, minimizing the risk of spills and leaks.

Food and Beverage Industry:

In the food and beverage industry, spout tops are used for handling powdered ingredients, grains, and other foodstuffs.

They help ensure that the materials remain clean and free from contamination during transport and storage.

Mining and Minerals:

The spout top style is also suitable for transporting mining and mineral products, such as sands, gravels, and aggregates.

It provides a durable and reliable solution for handling these heavy and abrasive materials.

Agricultural Industry:

In agriculture, spout tops are often used for storing and transporting fertilizers, pesticides, and other agricultural inputs.

They offer a convenient and secure way to manage these materials on farms and in distribution networks.

Construction Industry:

The spout top style is also used in the construction industry for transporting building materials like cement, plaster, and drywall compounds.

It ensures that these materials are easily accessible and can be efficiently used on construction sites.

2. Duffle Top Style

Also know as Skirted Top style.  A Duffle Top on an FIBC typically features a wide, flattened opening that resembles the shape of a duffle bag. This design allows for easy access and filling of the container. The opening is usually reinforced with additional material or stitching to ensure durability and prevent tearing.

A duffle top style can be simply viewed as a diameter amplified version of spout top. Rather than having a top base, the duffle directly stitches to the bag body. Most commonly, the duffle is made from coated woven PP fabric and has a pre-mounted tie as well.

Due to wide size in duffle mouth, users can fill their contents as easily as an Open Top Bag. But because of the same factor, it's rare to see a Duffle Top connecting with a pre-designed filling equipment, there is some open space between the filling hopper and the duffle mouth, so it's not much common to fill dusty or powder materials.

Main Applications

Duffle Top FIBCs are commonly used in industries that handle bulk materials, such as chemicals, plastics, foodstuffs, animal feed, beans and seeds, granular material, and minerals. The wide opening facilitates the efficient loading and unloading of these materials.

3. Open Top Style

Just as the name indicates, Open Top Style has no top closure at all, materials are filled into the bag and exposed to the environment after.

The openable top facilitates easier loading and discharging of goods, significantly reduce the time and labor in these operations. Furthermore, Open Top Stytle provides a more ventilation favorable environment to the goods filled.

The filling mouth is similar between Duffle Top and Open Top, people can distinguish them out from the closure tie: A Duffle Top usually has closure tie, while Open Top has non.

Main Applications

And due to the absence of a closure top, Open Top are most commonly used to store low-value or environmentally insensitive materials such as soil, sand, rock, landscaping materials, construction debris, and scrap etc.

4. Flat Top Style

These are similar to an open top bag, but they do have a flat piece of fabric that can be laid over the product to protect it partially.

Both flat top and open top bags are broad-mouth at the top of the bag which allows product to freely flow into the bag from any mechanism whether it be a wheel loader, conveyor, etc. However, you will not be able to close off the top of the bag.
